Etimología

El concepto proviene del antiguo alto alemán imbizan – «entbeißen» (dar un mordisco). Posteriormente se empezó a utilizar imbiz para referirse al «segundo desayuno». Hoy en día, en el habla cotidiana, lo más normal es asociar la palabra Imbiss a los establecimientos callejeros, casi todos móviles, que ofrecen variedades culinarias de la cocina alemana de preparación rápida.
