La Federación Internacional de Historia y Estadística de Fútbol (IFFHS) eligió el mejor portero del siglo.[1]​

Lev Yashin , apodado «la araña negra», ganó la distinción como mejor portero europeo del siglo XX por la IFFHS. Además de haber sido declarado también mejor portero del mundo del siglo XX por la misma organización.[1]​
